Introduction
Cyanobacteria are the most basal group of all algae. They are most often called Blue-green algae, and are spread across the whole world. they exist on every continent, and are responsible for the earliest macrofossils, stromatilites. They are predominant in freshwater enviornments, with only a few marine species. As far as we know, cyanobacteria were the very first oxygenic photosynthesizers. on earth.
